1981

Evening all...

July’s @lpgrp theme is ‘1981’ so I'll be taking votes for records with an original release date of 1981.

This month will be a straight vote with no nomination process. I'll take up to 5 votes from everyone. Please rank in order of preference.

First preference will receive 5 votes, second preference will receive 4 votes and so on. Please send votes either by DM or twitter mention.

Deadline for voting will be 8pm on Wednesday 19 June. Listening session will take place on Sunday 7 July at 9:00pm.

Thanks very much – looking forward to receiving your votes.

PS Here are some links to 1981 album lists. These might jog your memory a tad.

Rate Your Music's Best of 1981 - Quite a lot of 'metal' to plough through. Huge list though.

Slicing Up Eyeballs Best of 1981 - More of a 'college rock' feel to this list.

Lovin' you is easy cause you're beautiful

The theme for @lpgrp’s June session is ‘Mini-Albums’.

The listening session will be 10pm, Sunday 9^th June. I know it’s normally the first Sunday in the month but it’ll be tricky to fit in nominations and polling before the 2^nd.

First, we need to create a shortlist. Please send me the name of one mini-album you’d like to nominate. Use a direct message or a tweet mentioning 'lpgrp' to contact me. Your deadline is 6pm, Sunday 19^th May. Once the shortlist is ready, I’ll publish details about how to vote.

House rule for this month: mini-albums – for our purposes - shall be no more than 30 minutes long AND contain eight tracks or fewer. EPs (and Rush albums) do not qualify.

Hope to hear from you soon.

I Am The One And Only - You Can't Take That Away From Me

Here are the results of the ‘One Album Wonders’ vote to decide which album will be played during the group’s May session.

Please join us on Sun 12 May at 9pm for communal spin of Colossal Youth by Young Marble Giants. Good company and convivial chat guaranteed. Note that due to the Bank Holiday (and in a break from tradition) the next session is on the 2nd rather than the 1st Sunday in May. Thanks!

Here is the Top Ten run-down.

1^st Young Marble Giants - Colossal Youth (16 votes)

2^nd= Michael Head & the Strands – The Magical World of the Strands (12 votes)

2^nd = Dennis Wilson – Pacific Ocean Blue (12 votes)

4^th The La’s – The La’s (11 votes)

5^th= The Monks - Black Monk Time (10 votes)

5^th= Lift To Experience - Texas Jerusalem Crossroads (10 votes)

7^th= Jeff Buckley – Grace (9 votes)

7^th= The Avalanches - Since I Left You (9 votes)

8^th Mary Margaret O'Hara - Miss America (8 votes)

9^th= The Sex Pistols – Never Mind the Bollocks (7 votes)

9^th= Life Without Buildings – Any Other City (7 votes)

9^th= The For Carnation - The For Carnation (7 votes)

Thanks for voting, y’all. See you on the 12^th!
